Research summary
It is well known that at the point of transition from childhood to adulthood, there is a particular need for joined-up, multi-agency services for young people with complex needs (Kirk 2008). The T2A Pathways model aims to provide new ways of supporting young adults involved in crime at key stages in the CJS including: arrest, prosecution, sentencing, probation and prison. A number of small-scale local projects have been funded as part of the wider T2A programme to illustrate how, in principle, a 'whole pathway approach' could be commissioned in a given locality.
The aim of the evaluation will be to establish an evaluation base for T2A projects, to demonstrate effective interventions and measure the impact of delivering young adult specific interventions at various stages of the Criminal Justice System (CJS).
The research will include both qualitative and quantitative methodology. The qualitative strand will involve semi-structured interviews with project staff, partner agencies and project beneficiaries to explore the delivery of the programme and quality of implementation. The quantitative strand will involve analysis of project outcome data, a reconviction study and cost benefit analysis to examine the effects or outcomes of a project, determining impact.
