Research summary
The proposed study aims to look at how decisions are made for and with young people with profound intellectual disabilities (ID) who are moving from education to adult services. To be able to explore the decision-making process on different levels and in-depth, the researcher will follow 1 to 3 young people with profound ID, their families and professionals involved through the journey from school to adult services.
Young people with profound ID will be between 16 and 25 years.
The study will use case study methodology. This means that the researcher will use different methods to collect data from different participants. The researcher hopes to be able to conduct interviews with families and professionals and to get access to documents such as assessments, plans and meeting notes. She might also organize group discussions, conduct observations of the young person with profound ID and might use arts and photographs.
Participants will be recruited through their schools or third sector organizations, such as care providers, that offer support to families and young people with profound ID.REC name
