Research summary
The first stage will involve semi-structured interviews with 24 patients and/or carers and a further 12 interviews with healthcare professionals to understand their experiences of tracheostomy training and care in the home.
We will then work with groups of patients, carers and healthcare staff in workshops to identify training needs and what training for tracheostomy should include. We will aim to have 4 patients/carers and two staff members in each workshop. This will form part of an experienced based co-design as the participants will consider the data and information from the previous stage's interviews to enhance their comprehension and recommendations.
Finally we will ask patient, carers, and healthcare staff to assess the training needs identified and establish whether others would benefit. This will happen via a 2 focus groups with patients and carers and a further 2 focus groups with healthcare staff and tracheostomy experts.REC name
