Research summary
Endometriosis affects between 5 and 15% of women of reproductive age. Clinically it presents with dysmenorrhoea, dyspareunia, pelvic pain, infertility and tiredness. The current management consists of pharmacological agents such as NSAIDS, Hormonal Contraceptives, GnRH Analogues and Surgery. These all either relieve pain, alter the menstrual cycle or remove endometrial deposits.
This study aims to evaluate the impact of quality of life of Progestins, GnRH analogues, and Surgery. This will enable greater understanding about which management option would suit each patient and is most likely to be effective.
Patients will have been diagnosed and started on their treatment. At the start of their treatment they will be given two questionnaires to complete to establish a baseline quality of life. Then 4 months later they will be asked to complete the same two questionnaires plus another questionnaire that will establish any change in quality of life. The study will run over approximately 6 months.
