Research summary
Care home residents with dementia are more likely to be socially isolated and experience a lack of stimulation. It has therefore been argued that access to meaningful activities for this population is of high importance in care homes. One possible intervention approach is the use of visual arts through touchscreen technology. This study will evaluate the benefits of the use of art applications (apps) on touchscreen tablets by people with dementia in one care home. Participants will be supported to use two different art apps for four weeks in individual sessions. We will assess the acceptability of the activity to participants and staff, and investigate whether we can measure outcomes for the individuals, including cognition and quality of life.
