  • Research summary

The purpose of this proposed study is to build on evidence that has emerged from previous Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) studies (examining predominantly healing by secondary intention), but apply this therapy to wounds that are clean and closed, healing by primary intention. The proposed patient group aims to include those considered to be at high risk of developing wound complications (such as infection or wound breakdown – known as dehiscence) due to pre - existing comorbidities. These patients will be identified by factors recognised to represent high risk, and are universally accepted characteristics which have been used in previous studies.
