  • Research summary

This questionnaire-based study investigates the awareness levels of patients (attending Leeds Dental Institute) to erosive tooth surface loss (TSL), caused by excessive consumption of acidic foods and drinks (eg. citrus fruits, fizzy drinks). Erosive TSL could cause problems to appearance of teeth as well as hypersensitivity and ultimately tooth loss if not diagnosed. Therefore, preventing and diagnosing this condition is of utmost importance to both dentists and patients. However, several studies showed that patients awareness to erosive TSL is low in the areas studied. By investigating the level of awareness in patients attending the Leeds Dental Institute, we will be able to know whether or not they were aware of erosive TSL and what causes it, and therefore are less (or more) likely develop dental problems caused by it.
