How do pregnant women and new parents experience the Together with Baby service?

Together with Baby is a service for pregnant women and new parents, provided by Essex Partnership University Trust. The service focuses on the emotional and mental health needs of the baby, and the relationship between baby and parents where there is risk of/or signs of a disorganised attachment or parent-infant bond. Such early intervention is important for enhancing mental and physical wellbeing and the future development of the child.
The implementation of the service is being evaluated in order to increase understanding of the types of factors enabling and preventing these types of services from being successfully implemented. Understanding families’ perceptions of the service will enhance the development of future service provision. The evaluation has been commissioned by the Parent Infant Foundation, a UK charity supporting specialised parent and infant relationship teams, and is being carried out by a team from the Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research at City, University of London.
The evaluation will involve interviewing up to fifteen families who have used the service, with the aim of exploring how they experienced the service, whether they perceive it to have been helpful and beneficial for their relationship with their baby, and how the service might be improved. Only parents who have received the service are eligible to take part. Interviews with families will be carried out by telephone, and last approximately 30 minutes. Interviews will be audio-recorded and transcribed, and the transcriptions will be thematically analysed. An evaluation report will be written based on the analysis of the anonymous interview data, and will include recommendations for future development of the service. Data will also be included in an academic paper. The evaluation will run until March 2021.
