Research summary
Ours will be a retrospective single center study, looking at patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) awaiting kidney transplantation and has a positron emission tomography (PET) study to diagnose coronary artery disease (CAD).
Data collection will be by looking into patient notes, letters and scan results, which will be computed into an excel sheet.
We will be looking specifically at the myocardial blood flow (MFR) in ml/gm/min in their PET and specifically look for any association of MFR with cardiac outcomes (Death related to CAD, MI or recurrent hospitalization with chest pain). This would determine the prognostic significance of looking at PET MFR in diagnosing CAD in ESRD patients awaiting transplantation.
Manchester Foundation Trust being a transplant center which performs a large number of kidney transplants every year, will give us the opportunity of identifying any prognostic significance of using CFR in the identification of CAD in ESRD patients, even in the absence of any other abnormal findings in their PET scan or in an invasive coronary angiogram.REC name
