Research summary
This is a retrospective data analysis study to determine if the measurement of tympanic membrane displacement may help identify the cause of chronic subjective dizziness.
Chronic subjective dizziness is a condition in which patients describe a constant feeling of dizziness lasting 3 months or more where no explanation can be found. The effect of this condition on the patient's quality of life is profound but unfortunately Doctors often run out of ideas for diagnosing and treating the condition.
Dr Marchbanks is a consultant clinical audiological scientist and the inventor of the tympanic membrane displacement measurement technology. In view of his unique methods and expertise he has been referred patients with chronic subjective dizziness for many years in the hope that he can reveal distinct or extreme abnormalities that may help to identify a cause of the patient’s symptoms.
Recently we recruited 366 healthy subjects to produce the largest reference data set for his measurements in the world. The objective of this study is to perform a retrospect analysis of the patients seen by Dr Marchbanks who were suffereing with chronic subjective dizziness and compare the results with our new reference data set. We will specifically test the hypothesis that there is a difference in the measurement between healthy subjects and patients with chronic subjective dizziness.REC name
