Research summary
This study will use a digital health application (App) designed for people with back pain that has been adapted for people having a knee replacement to help their rehabilitation. The study aims to establish if it is feasible to use the App to support rehabilitation and is the App acceptable for use by people who have had a knee replacement. Twenty-four people will be recruited from a physiotherapy department (2-4 weeks after the operation) and randomly allocated to either usual physiotherapy (usual care) or usual physiotherapy plus App (intervention). Those in the intervention group will be given a wrist worn activity tracker and an App to use for 6 weeks. All participants will complete initial outcomes (such as pain levels, function and quality of life) at the start and after the 6 weeks. Six participants in the intervention group will also be invited to have a phone interview on their experience using the App and whether they found it useful or not. All participants using the App will also be invited to a workshop after the 6 weeks to help the researchers further modify and improve the App content prior to a larger research project starting on successful completion of this study.
