Data collection arrangements
We have stored samples from human peripheral blood obtained from living healthy donors that are completely anonymised and from kidney transplant recipients and their donors that have specific consent for specific research studies. These samples are originated from blood and urine.
We also have a number of stored frozen cells originated from spleens of deceased donors. These were originated from discarded tissue after use by diagnostic laboratory team in the work up of the transplant.
Patient samples were always obtained in the course of ethically approved research projects.Samples are all stored in the MRC centre for transplantation, on the 5th floor Tower wing Guy's Hospital. London.
Research programme
The TIN-TIN Biobank sits within the MRC centre for Transplantation, based at King's College London. The MRC Centre aims to generate high quality biomarker data to enable disease prediction, risk stratification and personalised medicine. The biomarker research team is working on a programme of early post-transplant monitoring to detect acute rejection before clinical warning signs are evident. The programme includes research studies examining clinical utility of biomarkers that associate with long term acceptance of kidney or liver transplants with little or no immunosuppressive therapy. A further study is looking at late post transplant markers which may indicate progressive transplant loss.
