  • Research summary

In the UK alone, there were 7470 new cases reported in 2015 with 4116 deaths in 2016 and the numbers continue to steadily increase. The current standard treatment of ovarian cancer includes a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. We would like to analyse cancer tissue if the cancer is being removed during surgery –a small piece of the tumour-of many patients with suspected diagnosis of cancer and confirmed cancer and attempt to grow these cancer cells in 3D models (scaffolds) in the laboratory to develop a way of understanding how cancer cells in each individual patient respond to treatment in order to personalise cancer care for the future.
