Research summary
The aim of this research is to help define the use of thoracic ultrasound as a diagnostic tool to detect subclinical interstitial lung disease (ILD) in patients with a new diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) (both Seropositive and Seronegative RA), as well as quantifying the use of US in patients with an already established diagnosis of RA with ILD. We plan to recruit these three patient groups (New seropositive RA/New seronegative RA and Established RA with ILD) and perform Thoracic Ultrasound on them to compare US results with other standard baseline investigations such as Pulmonary Function Tests/CXR/High resolution CT Chest. The first patient group with new diagnosis of RA will also have a 2 year follow-up to reassess if ILD has developed within this time frame and to compares to US findings or not.
