Research summary
This research will be looking into the difficulties experienced by women on the autistic spectrum who have received their diagnosis in adulthood as opposed to as a child. A therapeutic group will be piloted within a private Psychological service with two Assistant Psychologists and overseen by a Consultant Psychologist. \n\nPsicon have undertaken Adult Autism assessments on behalf on the NHS for the entirety of Kent over the past year and as such we have identified vulnerable women with ASD as a group in pressing need of support. The group will have a set structure in order to promote self-esteem in women as well as enhance mood states, however will also take input from the participants as to specific areas of concern to focus on. \n\nThe primary aim of the group and research is to inform future practice for intervention with this population. As noted above, we have identified this as an area in need of intervention, and at present no such intervention exists.
