Research summary
There has been an increase in products used in surgical procedures such as packs, grafts and haemostatic agents. A vast majority of these contain extracts of animal products e.g. gelatin from pig to cow. Current practice is not to discuss the use of these products with patients prior to surgery, to see if it they are happy for us to use them, taking into account their ethical or religious beliefs. Our study aims to see if patients would object to the use of these biological products and whether we should be consenting/ discussing this with patients prior to surgery.
