Research summary
Cochlear implants provide access to sound for severely to profoundly deaf adults and children. Cochlear implant patients continue to be followed up approximately annually for life. Part of this follow up is a test of speech perception in the clinic - listening to sentences and repeating what is heard. We want to trial a new speech perception test in the clinic - the Triple Digit Test. If it is feasible and valid, ultimately we would like to roll it out for patients to use to test their own hearing at home.
This project will involve inviting adult cochlear implant users who have an existing appointment at the Auditory Implant Service, University of Southampton, to come early or stay after their appointment for 20 minutes to trial the new test. We will also ask their opinion of the test using a short questionnaire.REC name
