Research summary
The best model of antenatal care for women who have suffered a previous stillbirth or neonatal death is still unclear. The current study will collect questionnaire and interview data from women attending three hospitals for their antenatal care following an earlier stillbirth or neonatal death.
Previous stillbirth or neonatal death is consistently recognised to increase parents’ anxiety, emotional vulnerability and decrease confidence in the next pregnancy. This is a cause for concern because studies in the general maternity population have suggested that increased anxiety increases the risk of poor pregnancy outcomes, for example preterm birth and low birthweight. This study aims to explore pregnancy, labour, postnatal experiences and outcomes of women attending the specialist Rainbow Clinic at St Mary's hospital and similar services available regionally, and to assess the "social return on investment" value of the service. The objective is to develop better models of care that can positively influence outcomes.REC name
