Research summary
This pilot study will consist of a singing workshop delivered by a Health Care Profes-sions Council (HCPC) registered music therapist to parents of 10 infants in the Local Neonatal Unit and the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil. This means the study has a maximum of 20 potential participants if each baby had two parents who both participated in the study. Validated questionnaires will be used to measure the effectiveness of the workshop. The aim of the workshop is to support parents in using their voice in singing, or using baby-talk, as a way of connecting with their infants. It will be offered to parents of infants of 36 weeks or less gestation who are medically stable and not receiving Intensive Care. There are approximately 100 babies per year who fit these criteria in Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB, so for this pilot we will aim to recruit 10 babies, offering the workshop to both parents.
