  • Research summary

The research question addresses the role of residential rehabilitation units in medication self-management, from the perspective of older service users and rehabilitation professionals.

The aims of this research are:
    • to explore the experience of older people, receiving rehabilitation within hospital-based residential rehabilitation units, in terms of how they manage their medications, what helps them to be independent and want hinders this?
    • to explore the experience of different rehabilitation professionals, working within a rehabilitation unit, in promoting independence with medication self-management. How much do they feel this is part of their role and what, if anything, do they feel their profession could contribute to this process?

In the longer-term the aim of this study is to contribute to the understanding and development of safe and person-centred strategies for self-management of medications, within rehabilitation units, in order to improve independence, well-being and health outcomes.

Each consenting participant will be interviewed once, by the researcher.
