Research summary
The study aims to investigate the experiences of the players in one football and mental health project in Fife, Scotland in order to ascertain i) the subjective benefits of participation as described by participants; ii) key elements underlying continued success of the project, and iii) the role played by football in both the delivery of mental health care and in the promotion of personal recovery. A secondary aim of the project is to develop a questionnaire/interview schedule informed by ‘experts by experience’ that can be used in a subsequent, follow-up interview study of small football mental health projects across Scotland.
