  • Research summary

HRQOL will be measured by The Functional Assessment of HIV Infection (FAHI). According to the British HIV Association in 2014 the ‘Quality of life for people with HIV in the UK remains poor, despite treatment successes.’ The aim of project is assessing whether HRQOL in individuals has changed within the two years. This study is important as it may help other researchers to identify factors which may improve HRQOL.

Only Individuals who are HIV positive from hospitals and clinics will be able to participate in the study which will be conducted online and on paper. I intend to recruit a minimum of 100 participants through a volunteer sampling technique. Participants will be recruited by placing posters in and around hospitals and clinics. Participants will be provided with the scope of study in the consent form in order to ensure that they are not deceived about the nature of the study. Participants will read the consent form and will give consent to take part in the study. The study will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

The questionnaire will include a demographic questionnaire which will ask participants for their: gender, age ethnicity, and employment status and education level. The English Language proficiency questionnaire will be used in order to assess the participant’s level of understanding English. This questionnaire is included to prevent flawed results. The FAHI tool will be used to measure participant’s quality of life. The FAHI evaluates physical well-being, functional and global well-being, emotional well-being/living with HIV, social well-being, and cognitive functioning.
The study will end in March 2017.
