  • Research summary

Various studies have reported that children who presented with Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation( defective enamel) experienced sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet and, mechanical stimuli (brushing their teeth) because of the exposed dentine and poor quality of enamel which make the tooth sensitive. There are no studies in the literature about the prevalence of sensitivity or pain in children with hypomineralised molars and/or incisors.
A convenience sample of children with the established diagnosis of hypomineralised ( defective enamel) molars and/or incisors who attend the new patient clinics in 5 different NHS dental centres in England (one in Doncaster, one in Hull, two in Leeds and one in York) will be included in the study.
A questionnaire has been developed to assess the prevalence of sensitivity or pain in children with hypomineralised molars and/or incisors.
In this study the dentist at each participating site will record the treatment outcome to investigate if there are any relationships between the sensitivity or pain and the treatment outcome for the hypomineralised teeth
