Research summary
To assess the effectiveness along with the feasibility and acceptability of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) based psychological intervention delivered in a group format by a qualified clinical/health psychologist on psychological, Quality of Life (QOL), and medical outcomes when compared to Waiting List Controls (WLC) receiving treatment as usual (TAU) within a patient group with a diagnosis of Gastrointestinal Dysmotility (GID) or pseudo obstruction, with a description of the results of those with Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIPO) against those non-CIPO to see whether the effectiveness or needs differ between these two groups.
