Research summary
Normally when a child is recovering from a burn injury and their wound has started to heal their dressings are changed in hospital outpatient units. The Burns Service at Birmingham Children’s Hospital has been asking parents if they would prefer to change their child’s wound dressings themselves at home. This would mean that families do not have to visit the hospital as frequently, which may well be preferable to parents and children. This research study will survey clinical practice in burns centres, facilities and units across the UK, and gather the views and experiences of parents who have been offered at-home parent-administered dressing changes for burns aftercare for their children attending Birmingham Children’s Hospital via one-to-one interviews.
