Samples are stored within the NHS Highly Specialised Service for Mitochondrial Disease on Level 4 of the Catherine Cookson Building within the Medical School of Newcastle University.
Consent for research will be recorded using approved Biobank consent forms applicable to the patient group.
Research programme
The Newcastle Mitochondrial Research Biobank is a collection of samples from patients with suspected or diagnosed mitochondrial disease, their family members (affected/unaffected) and controls. This collection aims to facilitate research into the pathological role of mitochondria in human disease.
