Data collection arrangements
The National EHE Biobank will be collecting samples from Biopsy, Surgery and Blood collections for storage within the Royal Marsden Hospital from centres across the UK. Data stored alongside these samples will include relevant information about response to treatment (if any) and clinical outcomes. Informed consent will be obtained from donors before donation of any samples and/or data.
Research programme
The National EHE Biobank will support research projects across the world by providing samples from patients diagnosed with EHE. These projects may involve a wide range of biomedical analytic techniques including, for example, morphology (microscopy),cellular and in vivo imaging using fluorescent or luminescent probes, nucleic acid analysis (polymerase chain reaction based techniques, microarrays of DNA and mRNA, whole genome sequencing), protein analysis (antibody based and by mass spectroscopy), small molecule assessment (including intracellular drug levels) and functional analysis (stem cell assays, drug sensitivity assessment).. this will enable more research to be conducted into EHE and hopefully allow a deeper understanding of the biology of this rare subtype of sarcoma. In the long term we hope this will improve the outcomes of patients who are diagnosed with EHE.
