Research summary
The study will provide a microbiota profile for patients with chronic pancreatitis who are Cystic Fibrosis carriers and compare it to alcohol related chronic pancreatitis, the study will also use a control arm of healthy participants.
We will invite participants from the Pancreatology Specialist Clinic at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. We aim to recruit 30 participants with chronic pancreatitis with carriage status of CFTR gene mutation and 30 participants with chronic pancreatitis related to alcohol. The study will have a control group of 30 healthy volunteers. The healthy volunteers will be invited via email using the distribution email list from the University of Manchester and Manchester University NHS Foundation trust.
All participants will be invited for short clinic consultation with the principal investigator, the visit will include short clinical history, health questionnaire and dietary history. Participants will be asked to provide 3 stool samples at different occasions for microbiome sequencing to profile their microbiome, over the course of 3 weeks 16s DNA sequencing will be used for the analysis.REC name
