Data collection arrangements
The Listening Place (Charity No. 1164739), also known as TLP, is a London based charity offering face-to-face support to people who are suicidal. Volunteers provide empathetic, non-judgemental listening support. Data on service user's demographics, their suicidal thoughts and feelings, suicide attempts, and their feelings about TLP are collected as part of routine practice at TLP. Currently TLP uses this data for internal audits but has requested that this data be considered a Research Database so that data can be analysed and the results can undergo academic peer review before being shared with the public.
Research programme
The TLP Research Database would contribute to our understanding of the nature of suicidal thoughts and behavior and whether a charity-led, listening-based support service is of value to people who are suicidal. Findings from this Research Database would be of particular interest to the suicide prevention community - whether that be academics, clinicians, charities, policy makers, or individuals affected by suicide.
