Research summary
The study aims to explore how cultural and ethnic backgrounds influence the experiences, beliefs, and decisions of people who need long-term artificial nutrition. This includes treatments like feeding through a vein (parenteral nutrition - PN) or through a tube into the stomach or bowel (enteral nutrition - EN), such as percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tubes, radiologically inserted gastrostomy tubes (RIG), or feeding jejunostomy tubes. We are interested in how cultural beliefs might affect treatment choices and how these treatments can impact cultural traditions and practices, such as food-related customs. The study also looks at how these treatments affect family members or carers who provide support.
