  • Research summary

Patients recover from surgical procedures at different rates. Part of this may be due to psychological factors. There is a significant evidence base linking positive emotional health with improved physical health. In coronary artery bypass surgery it has been shown that factors such as mood, optimisim, social support and hostility are linked with recovery. Vascular surgery similarly involves operating on blood vessels but there is little research investigating the impact of psychological factors on recovery.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of psychological and social factors in recovery from vascular surgery using both objective and subjective postoperative outcomes.
