Research summary
With rates of dementia diagnosis expected to increase in coming years, living well with dementia is a national priority. This study aims to investigate the impact an individuals perceptions of their dementia may have on their estimations of cognitive decline and subsequent need for assistance, in the form of support received from carers, following a diagnosis of dementia. It is hoped that gaining an understanding of psychosocial factors which may influence an individuals ability to live well for longer will help to influence support for individuals and their carers following diagnosis.
Individuals who have received a diagnosis of dementia in the past 4-months from either 2gether NHS Trust, Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership Trust, or Northamptonshire NHS Healthcare are eligible to participate in this study. Participation would include the completion of a series of questionnaires in an environment convenient for participants and their carers. Questionnaire completion is expected to last around 45-minutes. Only patients with capacity to consent will be recruited.
