Research summary
The study aims to understand how gender and other sociodemographic factors impact upon the stepped care model of therapy introduced by the Improving Access to Physiological Therapies (IAPT) service. The study will aim to determine if any disparities exist through analysing data routinely collected by IAPT services and data gathered on the Sheffield Hospital Admission Risk Stratification database from General Practitioner (GP) services.
The purpose of the study is to determine if gender has an impact on IAPT services in terms of referrals, amount of sessions, treatment outcomes, therapy received and reasons for ending care. The study will also take into account a number of other related factors such as age, ethnicity, other long term illness and level of deprivation in order to explore how these differences in service experience can be minimised. This information can then feed into further projects aiming to improve access and acceptability of such services to all individuals.
