Research summary
Within contemporary health care commissioning, wellbeing services have become popular. However policy; Environmental Audit Committee (2014), Chief Medical Officers Report (2013), Foresight Report (2008) encourages investigation into why wellbeing is a pertinent public health issue, alongside the consideration of a best model for such a service. The researcher is proposing a mixed methodological study utilising purposive sampling of discharged patients from a local Emotional Health and Wellbeing Service (all Adults ≥ 18) for semi-structured interviews. Alongside the qualitative element of the study, a quantitative analysis of historical pre and post screening scores from the same service will be undertaken to consider efficacy and a best model. The study will invite those individuals who attended an NHS emotional health wellbeing service within a 12 month period to complete semi-structured interviews. The interviews will aim to understand what participants view a wellbeing service to be, whether the service they attended mirrors their expectations and how the service could be improved. An analysis of pre and post Generalised Anxiety Disorder Assessment (GAD-7) and Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) scores for all service attendees in the same 12 month period will also be completed. The GAD-7 is "a brief measure for assessing generalized anxiety disorder" (Spitzer et al, 2006), it is often used in therapeutic settings alongside the PHQ-9 "a depression module of the PHQ for mental health disorders (Kroenke et al, 2001). Interpretative phenomenological analysis will be used to identify themes and sub-themes from interview transcripts. A paired T-Test will be used for analysis of pre and post PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scoring.
