Research summary
Eating behaviours in Huntington’s Disease (HD) are a subject that has been relatively unexplored in contemporary research. It is very common for people with manifest Huntington’s Disease to experience significant weight loss (Novak & Tabrizi, 2010) but the mechanism by which this occurs appears to be little understood and contested by multiple plausible explanations (Kremer & Roos, 1992; Goodman et al., 2008; Roos, 2010; van der Burg et al., 2011).
The research team previously interviewed professionals who care for people with HD, and these interviews showed that professionals think there are multiple different reasons that could explain weight loss in HD, but no validated tool to assess these potential explanations.
The research here aims to create a HD-specific eating behaviours questionnaire informed by interviews with HD-related professionals as well as interviews with service users, and then make initial assessments of the validity of the questionnaire against a battery of existing, already validated assessments.
