  • Research summary

Energy devices are used ubiquitously in many surgical specialties. They function by imparting thermal energy to tissues, causing water vaporization, coagulation and tissue sealing. There is no evidence regarding their use in inflammatory tissues, which by definition have a greater water content within. This study aims to assess the changes to vessel sealing and lateral thermal spread between normal and inflammatory tissues when using these devices.
