Research summary
The study will adopt an experiential qualitative design to explore the experience, needs and service provision for cancer survivors living with chronic pain at different stages of the cancer care pathway. The research questions include:
- What is the experience of chronic pain for cancer survivors at different stages of the cancer care pathway?
- What are cancer survivors’ views and experiences of services used to help them manage their pain?
- What support would they have liked to have received from healthcare services to help manage their pain?A cross-section of up to 30 cancer survivors at different stages of survivorship who are living with chronic pain will be recruited from three centres in England, and from the public via a social media campaign. Data will be collected via semi-structured interviews and will be analysed using Braun and Clarke’s (2006) method of thematic analysis. Public Research Partners, who are cancer survivors living with chronic pain, have been involved with the development of the protocol. The study and findings will contribute to the submission of a doctoral thesis and will be disseminated via presentation at conferences and publication in academic journals.
