Research summary
This study is being conducted as part of a doctorate project and aims to explore the experience of community mental health teams with people who have long-term experience of psychosis. \n\nOver the last thirty years, there has been an increased focus within mental health on the importance of providing support within a recovery model. This has been particularly prominent in relation to the care provided to people who have experience of psychosis due to a long-history of care that assumed that this group could not recover. A recovery orientated approach includes factors such as, providing an holistic package of care, promoting hope, facilitating connection with others and providing person-centred care. This competes with a more traditional approach that primarily aims to reduce ’symptoms’ and manage risk. However, research suggests that although many UK policies now emphasise the importance of recovery, many people do not receive support that aligns itself with a recovery approach. Therefore, this study aims to ask people about their experience of services to provide further insight into how people experience the care they receive. \n\n
