Research summary
This study is about whether a psychological treatment group is helpful for people with learning disabilities who have a history of committing crimes. We want to invite sixty people with learning disabilities who are in hospitals in England to take part. One half of these participants will be invited to take part in the Equipping Youth to Help One Another treatment group, while the other half will receive normal care. The treatment group tries to teach people to deal with anger and social problems better. Who receives the treatment group will be decided by chance, like flipping a coin. We will ask people and their carers about behaviour, and emotional problems before and after the treatment group, and look to see whether there have been any changes. We will also ask people what they thought about treatment, and we will try to figure out how easy it was to sign people up for the study. We will also try to work out how much treatment costs, and what happened to those people who did not take part in the treatment group, and instead, got normal care.
