Research summary
The information we have to dose drug in dialysis patients is based on information from the 1980s. Dialysis has changed dramatically since then and become much more effective which could have a big impact on drug dosing. We aim to study important drugs such as antibiotics used in severe infection, pain relief and drugs used in epilepsy to identify how much is removed when patients have a session of new dialysis versus a session of conventional dialysis. Any patient who is based at the Manchester Royal infirmary dialysis unit taking one of the study drugs is eligible for the trial. The study would be for patients who had consented to be part of the study and would last just 2 dialysis sessions. Blood sampling will be done whilst the patient is on the dialysis machine from the dialysis access.
