  • Research summary

To examine patient personal experiences of the effects of discrimination upon their public and private lives with a diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Psoriatic Arthritis through individual 1:1 or telephone interviews using a standardised and validated DISC-12 questionnaire adapted with permission for use in this study. Do patients with Rheumatoid arthritis and Psoriatic arthritis experience discrimination from the public (at work or in social environments) or at home (with family or close friends) and whether this impacts on their ability to function as normal without discrimination in their work and home lives. Any findings may result in an intervention that would then be extrapolated to other groups of patients with long-term illness. The study will focus on those employed either full time or part time as from clinical experience the issue of discrimination comes up frequently and the aim is to systematically study this in this client population.
