Research summary
This research is being conducted to assess whether the current treatment for rUTIs significantly improves patients’ QoL and sexual health in addition to relieving symptoms. RUTIs can present significant problems to patients, affecting both their physical and mental well being. This is therefore an important area to address. The aims of this study are:\n\nTo determine the number of UTIs experienced before and after treatment.\nTo establish the frequency and severity of the four most common UTI symptoms, pre and post-treatment.\nTo understand which QoL domains are improved by the current treatment. \nTo ascertain how well current treatment improves sexual health in women with rUTIs.\nTo recognise the role menopausal status plays in the above. \n\nRecruited women will be those who are ≥18 years of age, have been referred from primary care, are currently suffering from lower rUTI’s (defined as more than three episodes in a year, or more than two episodes in 6 months) and have been put on the preventative treatment of continuous low dose antibiotics.\n\nData collection will occur through the Gynaecology/Urogynaecology departments in SGH and the study will last for 8 months, to allow for follow-up times. Participants will complete two self-designed questionnaires 4-6 months apart. These questionnaires will collect data on demographics, quality of life and sexual function, before and after treatment.\n
