Research summary
Patient's background disparity in the outcome of treatment has long been an issue over the last decades in the medical literature. The influence of patient gender, race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status on the course of treatment and outcome of treatment has been questioned in different field of medicine. It is suggested that the patients background could affect the clinician unconsciously or in other words bias their judgment or actions.
In dentistry though this subject has been less examined. Whether a patient's background (especially when it is different to the clinician's) could bias the outcome is a question that is tried to be answered in this retrospective study.
To achieve that, clinical notes of the former studies' participants will be accessed and the required data will be collected to determine if there is any disparities in the outcome of treatment with regards to background factors (e.g. gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status).
As the medical history (e.g. diabetes) and tooth related factors (e.g. complex root canal anatomy) may act as confounders, their even distribution in different groups will be analysed.
