  • Research summary

This study has been designed to look at the vestibular function, remaining hearing and patient satisfaction post intra-tympanic gentamicin treatment. Gentamicin is known to have an effect on vestibular function and is now commonly used as a form of chemical labyrinthectomy to treat Menieres. There are no direct guidelines as to the correct dosage and treatment regime for Gentamicin, this study will be looking at the effectiveness of a single shot of 40mg/ml Gentamicin taking into consideration the vestibular function, remaining hearing and patient satisfaction. It will be a cross sectional study looking at patients post treatment, the data for the vestibular function and hearing will be collected retrospectively and the participants will not need to attend any additional appointments to collect this data. The participants will be contacted and invited to take part in the study, they will be required to complete a written consent form and complete a short postal questionnaire. The data will be anonymised and then analysed appropriately.
