  • Research summary

As England might legalise cannabis for recreational use, we need to know how it can lead to psychosis. Psychosis is a mental health condition where people often lose touch with reality for given periods of time. Cannabis-users are at a higher risk of becoming psychotic and more violent than others.

This study explores why cannabis use can result in aggressive and violent psychiatric patients. The findings could help us to better understand how cannabis affects mental health and to better help prevent psychosis, making wards (and society) safer. Also, the findings may help us understand why some people's mental health is more at risk from cannabis' effects and not others.
