Research summary
The study is aiming to design a suitable outcome measure for Group Analysis by gaining the views of services users, therapists and commissioners.
The study is a mixed methods design; this means it will start with interviews that will be analysed using qualitative research techniques and then validated by a second phase using quantitative research techniques. It will commence with focus groups (groups of 6-10 people with specialist knowledge of experiencing, delivering or commissioning group analytic therapy). These groups will all be analysed using Thematic Analysis (a qualitative research method) to overall produce an initial pilot outcome measure from the themes uncovered (key areas that were discussed) in the focus groups. This outcome measure will then be validated by service users who have not taken part in phase one and they will fill out the devised questionnaire (twice in one week for test, re-test reliability) and two other questionnaires for validity purposes. Their results shall then be analysed using quantitative research techniques including Principal Components Analysis, Pearson’s R, Cronach’s Alpha and Lin’s test re-test reliability.
