Research summary
Summary
This study explores the development of a dialogue in open dialogue session in an early intervention in psychosis service. Open dialogue is a new approach to the UK developed to support better relationships between service users, families and services, encouraging open, transparent collaborative recovery focused working. This approach focuses on network meetings where professionals meet with families to develop care plans together and try and increase a dialogue to understand and support change in their family members' distress. This is being trialled in an Early Intervention Team in Lewisham as part of service development. However its effectiveness has not been extensively explored in the UK and we do not know what if anything in the network meetings contributes to change for the family. In this study we will video record three network meeting. These meetings will be transcribed and analysed in detail using dialogical analysis. This process explores shifts in meaning and content and the emergence of new voices or stories and what is happening at these times in terms of dominance, position and responsivity of the therapists. We will be paying particular attention to how the therapeutic alliance is connected to the development of dialogue.
It is hoped exploring sessions in depth will increase our understanding about what is meaningful in these meetings and support the development of good practice in network meetings which contributes to meaningful change for service-users and their families.REC name
