  • Research summary

This study aims to estimate how measures of OCP continuation, knowledge and service use are associated with type of contraceptive service access among a population of new OCP users. Comparisons will be made between a population who access a novel, internet-based contraceptive service (known as SH:24) for their first supply of OCPs and those who access their first supply of OCPs via existing, face-to-face services such as their local Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) clinics. This study will fulfil the following objectives:
    • To describe and compare proportions of participants who obtain a second pack of OCPs once their 3 month supply of OCPs has expired, according to the service at which they obtained their first supply (SH:24 versus face-to-face services).
    • To describe the timing of OCP continuation according to service data on time to repeat contraception prescription.
    • To describe the proportion of participants who remain at the service at which they initiated contraception according to service data up to 4 months post recruitment.
    • To describe the contraceptive pill knowledge of the participants at baseline.
    • To compare the time to repeat contraceptive prescription between the different service groups.
    • To compare the proportions of participants who remain at the service at which they initiated contraception between the different service groups up to 4 months post recruitment.
    • To compare contraceptive pill knowledge between the different service groups at baseline.
    • To describe participants’ reasons for discontinuation of contraception.
    • To describe participants’ experiences with accessing a service for contraception using rating scores.
