  • Data collection arrangements

The Christie Skin Cancer Surgery Research Database (CoNCuR) will include patient data for all patients who have undergone surgery for various types of skin cancer (primary melanomas, basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas and Merkel cell carcinomas) at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (The Christie) from January 2002 to March 2016.

Data will be collected using the Clinical Web Portal - where the electronic patient records are stored at The Christie. An information request will be submitted to the Clinical Web Portal at The Christie for specific medical (surgery related) and demographic (population type of characteristics for example: gender) information.

The data will be collected and inputted by an assigned and fully trained Data Manager from the Plastics and Skin Surgery Research Team at The Christie.

In order to gather all the required information, The Plastics and Skin Surgery Research team will use The Christie Clinical Web Portal (for electronic records), paper patient medical records and/or GP follow-up letters. The data will be collected and stored into a secure database system, the CoNCuR database, at The Christie.

The data will be retained, archived and destroyed in line with The Christie's Data Retention and Information and Governance Policies.

  • Research programme

The Christie Skin Cancer Surgery Research Database (CoNCuR) will be a unique resource for the Skin Cancer international community: - With potential 8000 patients’ data on specific medical and demographic to be captured, - With focus on Skin Surgery patients, - To cover a 14 year time period (2002 to 2016) and - From 1 treatment centre – The Christie NHS Foundation Trust The CoNCuR database will complement The Christie’s current Melanoma database, which does not include skin cancer surgery related data. This is part of a project to integrate translational, surgery and medical data for all skin cancers in the long term. This is a major priority for The Christie to maximise the real data research and its outputs to deliver future patient benefits. CoNCuR is expected to provide the data for a number of retrospective research projects, therefore promoting internal and external collaborations. This project will give us the opportunity to collect and record this data in an appropriate way to enable us to perform non-observational studies in a systematic way to contribute to the literature and the knowledge base of these tumour groups. CoNCuR would position The Christie as leaders amongst the international community in skin cancer treatment.
