Research summary
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, and breast cancer deaths in England are most frequent in females living in the most deprived areas of the country. Significant differences remain in the presentation and management of breast cancer that are associated with age, deprivation, and ethnicity leading to inequality of access to care.
This project aims to understand the variations amongst breast care patient journeys (pathways) generated during routine delivery of cancer services at the Christie and referring centres within the Greater Manchester (GM) system. The intent of the study is to identify service optimization opportunities that reduce inequalities of access to breast cancer treatment. Information from the Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and Cancer Analysis System (CAS) will be used to explore these patient pathways.
